No one realized Allen disappeared until his van was located in New Mexico on December 12. The van was being driven by one of Allen's former tenants, Terry Chase White. White used Allen's credit cards on his cross-country trip. He was pumping $30 worth of gas for people at a Love's Route 66 truck stop near Tucumcari, New Mexico, and taking $25 in cash from them. Truck stop employees notified the state police. Blood splatter and a .22 caliber rifle was found in the van.
